Lufhtansa, the German airline, is increasing the frquency of its service to Orlando from next December. The Dusseldorf- Orlando service will have three weekly routes instead of two. The US carrier Delta airlines is withdrawing flights from Manchester to New York. The service that connects JFK airport to Manchester will stop on January 8. The airline states that an analysis indicating a demand dropping in winter is the cause of the decision. Delta is operating this daily transatlantic service using a Boeing 757. [...]

Virgin Atlantic has proposed combining its operations with Lufthansa to create a European super-carrier following the German national airline’s €400 million (£318 million) acquisition of Britain’s bmi. A tie-up with Virgin would allow the German carrier to use the better-known Virgin brand to expand internationally and at Heathrow in particular.

Lufthansa is buying a controlling stake in bmi, for a sum believed to be around £320 million. After this deal, Lufthansa will own 80 per cent of bmi, the former British Midland, and is expected to make a bid for the remaining 20 per cent, which is owned by Scandinavian Airlines (SAS)
