Lufhtansa, the German airline, is increasing the frquency of its service to Orlando from next December.
The Dusseldorf- Orlando service will have three weekly routes instead of two.
Lufthansa is also going to open a new route London Heatrow – Dresden using the BMI Airbus A319 aircraft. This service will be operative from April 19th 2010.
After the liberalisation of UK-US air traffic in 2008, last year we witnessed a fall in passengers of 10% in the UK to US routes.
In 2008 and 2009, the share of UK to US traffic generated by airports other than Heathrow and Gatwick fell from 18% to 14%. In fact, Heathrow’s share of scheduled UK-US traffic has leapt from 61% in 2007 to 70% in 2008 and 76% in 2009.
Combining the traffic across both airports and comparing with 2007, traffic was down by more than 10% in four months; February (-10.0%), March (-15.7%), November (-14.8%) and December (-12.5%).
From the airlines point of vew, carriers have cut capacity in February 2010 relative to 2009. Virgin Atlantic no longer operates its Chicago route year round but it should resume this service on 27 May.

KLM, the Royal Dutch Airline, has launched a new service to Aruba from all UK airports.

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) earned a further distinction in this year’s Business Traveller Awards: first place in the newly-inaugurated category of “Best Business Class to North and South America”. The readers of Germany’s reputed Business Traveller magazine also voted SWISS “Best Airline for Europe”, the fourth time in succession that the carrier has gained this distinction. SWISS also took the top honours in a further award category, for “Best Direct and Connecting Flights to North and South America”.
