American Airlines announced yesterday they will be adding transatlantic flights to Rome and Barcelona.
From yesterday, April 4th, they will be resuming seasonal flights from New York JFK to Rome and from Chicago to Rome.
Both flights are operated by B767-300s
They have also launched direct flights from Miami to Barcelona, in addition to flights from New York JFK to Barcelona. Here’s the photo from the launch party in Barcelona:
Caribbean Airlines announced they will be launching direct flights from London Gatwick to Trinidad starting 14 June 2012.
Flights will run four times per week, departing Port of Spain, Trinidad at 19:10 on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays and departing London Gatwick at 11:50 on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Emirates announced it will start new flights from Washington Dulles to Dubai on September 12th, 2012.
Emirates will operate the American manufactured Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft, providing eight private suites in First Class, 42 lie-flat beds in Business Class and 304 seats in Coach.
“The arrival of Emirates to Washington Dulles International Airport means travelers in the DC metropolitan area will have one more choice of international airlines and convenient access to Emirates’ continuously expanding global network,” said John E. Potter, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority President and Chief Executive Officer. “Emirates will provide an important economic boost by introducing the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia to more markets for business, trade and tourism.”
Delta has cancelled flights from Atlanta to London Gatwick (now flying to Heathrow) and flights from Miami to London Heathrow (now connecting via JFK or ATL) as of April 17th.

Delta Air Lines will be resuming direct flights from New York JFK to Nice from March 25th.
Flights to the capital of the French Riviera will leave JFK at 19:55 and arrive in Nice at 10:25 the next day. Prices start from $837 return, including all taxes.

United Airlines has announced it will be adding new direct flights from New York Newark to Istanbul from July 1st, 2012.
Flights will operate daily, using Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, leaving Newark at 19:27 and arriving to Istanbul at 12:20 the next day. Return flights will leave Istanbul 13:55 to arrive in New York at 18:02.
United will have competition from Delta and Turkish Airlines, who both operate direct flights from New York JFK to Istanbul.

Virgin Atlantic have launched two new transatlantic routes from London: Cancun and Vancouver.
Flights from London Heathrow to Vancouver will start on 24 May 2012 and will run until 27th October 2012.

“Almost 400 transatlantic airline passengers bound for London were yesterday stranded overnight in Ireland because of the snow,” reports British newspaper Metro.
British Airways flight from Atlanta to London Heathrow and the flight from Dallas to London Heathrow had to be redirected to Shannon airport in Ireland, as London was covered in snow.
The Telegraph commented on the snow chaos at Heathrow: “The first serious snowfall of the winter saw 41 per cent of flights cancelled.”
