Air Transat was established in December 1986 in Montreal by Canadian former employees of Quebecair.

Its main base is Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, with hubs at Toronto Pearson International Airport and Vancouver International Airport. The airline also focuses operations at Calgary International Airport and Québec/Jean Lesage International Airport.

Network

The network of routes of Air Transat includes over 90 different destinations in more than 15 countries, which are served seasonally from the base in Montreal and the two hubs in Toronto and Vancouver. Destinations include Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa and Halifax in Canada, Acapulco and Cancun in Mexico, San Jose, Managua and Panama City in Central America, Varadero, Puerto Plata, Montego Bay and Fort-de-France in the Caribbean, as well as Frankfurt, Vienna, Paris, Athens, Rome, Lisbon and London in Europe.

Air Transat specializes in charter flights from several Canadian cities to vacation destinations, mainly in the south during the winter months and in Europe during the summer.
